If you have a little girl who loves Frozen, she’s definitely dreamed of rocking Anna’s Coronation hairstyle at least once. My daughter was no exception—she begged me to transform her into Anna, so I went on a mission to find the perfect hair tutorial.
To be honest, I had never seen a hairstyle like this before. It was a total mystery! No matter how much I searched, I couldn't find a single step-by-step guide that felt authentic or did the movie justice.
I realized that if the perfect tutorial didn't exist, I’d have to invent it myself. Driven by the simple wish to make my daughter's dream come true, I obsessed over every twist and braid day after day.
After six months of endless trial and error, I finally cracked the code! This method is a highly accurate recreation of Anna’s iconic look. If you’ve been looking for the "real" way to do it, you’ve finally found it.
It may look difficult with so many steps, but don't worry! Just take it one step at a time. Follow along with this guide at your own pace, and you’ll get it.

🏰 Anna’s Coronation Hairstyle Guide: Step-by-Step

Prep the Crown
Section off a small portion of hair at the crown and divide it into three. Clip the center section out of the way, and tie the left and right sections together.

The Flip & Pin
Reach your fingers through the gap from the top. Pull the ponytail through from the back toward the face (reverse topsy-tail), then pull it tight. Secure firmly from both sides using bobby pins.

The Half-Up Base
Take a section of hair as if you’re doing a half-up style, combine it with the top section, and tie them together. This section will serve as the base for the circular "bun" part.

Diagonal Topsy-Tail
Holding only the top layer of hair, insert your topsy-tail tool diagonally into the bottom layer. Flip the hair through (bottom to top) and pull tight.

Create the Bun
Twist the hair and secure it with bobby pins to form a circular bun.
Fix the Base
Tidy up any messy parts of the base and secure them with pins. As long as the visible parts look neat, you're good! Smooth the surface hair and secure it with bobby pins.

Add the Braid Wig
Wrap the braid wig around the base once. If you want extra security, use bobby pins to keep it in place.

Side Sections
Take a small section of hair from the side and tie it just above the pin holding the base. It's much easier to tie if you lift the hair up to a horizontal position, as shown in the image.

The Low Braid
Tie the previous section together with the remaining hair. Braid it loosely and pancake (pull apart) horizontally until flat.

The Tuck
Gently tuck the braid into the base starting from the ends. Secure with pins from both sides.

Final Touches
If any bits of the braid are sticking out, hide them with surrounding hair. Use extra pins if needed for a secure finish.
